On August 12th,Xiong’an green technology integration innovation center is unveiled on the 2018Xiong ‘ an Ecological Environment construction Forum. The center is initiated by Institute of Urban Environment at CAS,National Research Centre for Industrial Sustainability at the university of Cambridge and Yonker environmental protection Co.,Ltd. (永清环保股份有限公司).

Xiong’an is expected to become a model city in the history of human development.

On April 1st 2017, Xiong’an was announced to build as a new economic zone about 100 kilometers southwest of Beijing. Xiong‘an New area is another new area of “national significance” following the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and Shanghai Pudong New Area. This city is regarded as the city of future and the area as a low-carbon, intelligent, and globally influential city where people and nature exist in harmony.

China has published several master plan documents for Xiongan New Area and planed to fund this project with $290 billion.

The document lists overall development goals for the new area.

By 2035, Xiongan will basically develop into a modern city that is green, intelligent, and livable, with relatively strong competitiveness and harmonious human-environment interaction.

By the middle of the century, it will become a significant part of the world-class Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei city cluster, effectively performing Beijing’s non-capital functions and providing the Chinese solution to “big city malaise.”

Xiong’an aims to be a teeming hub of innovation.

Xiong’an aims at the forefront of cutting-edge technology, including the area of information, biotechnology, new materials, modern services, and green agriculture.

National key laboratories and engineering research centers will be introduced to Xiongan, and promising tech firms will also find their new homes there. In May, the first innovation and starts-up center of Xiongan New Area was opened, which is designed to support projects related to new energy, information engineering, new materials, and environmental protection.

The technology applications are striving in Xiong’an.

Xiong’an is the place facing to the future, where keeping positive to the future of technology. In the foreseeable future, this new city will witness the promising technology striving.

  • 5G

Xiong’an is served as a demonstration of 5G’s superiority. China’s three telecom operators are landing theirs 5G movements in Xiong’an New Area.

  • China Mobile(中国移动) announced plans to build a 5G network in advance in the area and assure complete optical access as well as other topnotch telecommunication infrastructure.
  • China Unicom(中国联通) promised to build a new-generation telecommunication network by allocating all its resources to guarantee the best quality.
  • China Telecom(中国电信) also said it would establish gigabit network access in the special economic zone, meaning the downstream bandwidth can achieve 1G.
  • On March 24, China Mobile completed its first 5G-V2X remote test drive in Xiong’an New Area, successfully demonstrating remote control of unmanned vehicles from over 20 km (12.4 miles) away through a 5G network, enabling acceleration, deceleration, steering, and other operations with a delay of only six milliseconds, or one tenth the latency time of 4G.

  • Self-driving technology

Starting from scratch, city planners are introducing more innovative solutions in technology, attracting more companies to set up branches here. Self-driving technology is one of the most promising technology in the near future. On May 23rd 2018, Baidu conducts L4 autonomous driving test in Xiongan New Area.

Baidu, Alibaba, and Tencent will open branches in the Xiong’an New Area that will contribute to work in areas including big data, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, financial technology, and autonomous vehicles.

  • New Retail

New business models are testing in Xiong’an.

  • On May 6th 2018, China’s second-largest e-commerce company by sales, JD.com, has opened its first unmanned store in Xiong’an New Area.

  • On July 26th, Meituan Dianping announced to operate unmanned delivery vehicles at some enclosed parks in the Xiongan New Area.

  • Blockchain technology

Even though China is keen on the blockchain technology and has cracked down on cryptocurrencies,shutting down all domestic crypto exchanges and banning initial coin offerings. Xiong’an is exploring a new application of this promising technology.

  • Xiong’an, in partnership with a subsidiary of state-owned China Communications Construction Company, has launched a blockchain network for small businesses to raise capital, where business owners and other relevant parties can track project completion and money flow in an efficient and transparent manner.
  • Meanwhile, with the help of Ant Financial, Xiongan’s blockchain-powered house renting platform is aimed at providing users with accurate information on listings, tenants and landlords that are verified by the government.

  • On July 23rd, government officials have engaged software company ConsenSys as a consultant on the use of blockchain.

  • Green technology

Green technology is one of the main concern topic in China, while it’s also put into the priority  in the  development  of the city.

  • Taihang Fenghuang Valley, a zero-carbon town, is expected to be built in the 5 years at Yixian county in North China’s Hebei province, about 30 kilometers northwest of the Xiongan New Area.

The new green materials are applied in the new city’s construction. China owns the production strength in the photovoltaic industry. The new buildings in Xiong’an will widely adopt the photovoltaic technology in its construction.

  • A photovoltaic tree was installed in Xiong’an New Area on February 8, 2018. The tree generates electricity as well as decorating the local area. The 5 kilowatt photovoltaic tree can generate 500 kilowatt hours of electricity per month, which is about 6,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year.
